But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.

Ask Asher: Have You Made New Friends at School?

A reader asked Asher a fun question: have you made any new friends at school? Asher’s new friends are a great story about being brave, and here is what he said.

“Yes, I have! At first, I was worried, but then I started talking to a few kids in my class. We found out we like the same cartoons, and now we play together during recess. Making friends turned out to be not so scary after all!”

Asher’s New Friends: From Worried to Happy

Asher’s story has three simple steps. First, he felt worried, which is normal for any child at a new school. Then he took a small step by talking to a few kids in his class. Because they shared a love of the same cartoons, they soon had something to talk about. Now they play together at recess, and making friends doesn’t feel scary anymore.

Helping Kids Make Friends at School:

Many children feel nervous about making friends. For example, a child may not know what to say, or may fear that no one will want to play. As a result, small steps matter most. A simple question like “What do you like to play?” can start a friendship, and a shared interest makes it easier.

Courage helps too. Joshua 1:9 tells us to be strong and courageous, because God is with us wherever we go. Also, if your child worries a lot, Fear Not: Asher’s Invisible Shield shows how Asher learns to trust God when fear feels big.

3 Tips to Help Your Child Make Friends:

  1. Practice one friendly opening line together, such as “Do you want to play?”
  2. Encourage your child to look for something they have in common with another child.
  3. Celebrate each small step, even if it’s just saying hello.

Try one tip this week, and then send Asher a letter to share how it went.
