But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.

Ask Asher: How Does Your Mom’s Prayer Help You?

Mason asked Asher a thoughtful question: how does your mom’s prayer help you? Praying for your child can feel quiet, but Asher’s answer shows how much it matters. Here is what he said.

“My mom’s prayer helps a lot because it reminds me that I’m not alone and that Jesus is always looking out for me. When things get tough, it’s nice to know that there’s something powerful and loving keeping me safe, even if I can’t see it.”

Praying for Your Child: What Asher Says:

First, Asher says his mom’s prayer reminds him that he is not alone. Then he explains that Jesus is always looking out for him. Because of that, tough days feel less scary. He also describes something powerful and loving that keeps him safe, even when he can’t see it. That is a beautiful picture of faith through a child’s eyes.

Why Prayer Helps Kids Feel Safe:

Children worry about many things, such as school, friends, and the unknown. For example, a child may feel nervous before a test or on the first day of class. When a parent prays for them, they hear that someone cares deeply. As a result, they often feel calmer and braver.

Bible verses about God protecting children can also bring comfort. Psalm 3:3 calls God a shield around us, and Matthew 28:20 says Jesus is with us always. This idea is at the heart of Fear Not: Asher’s Invisible Shield, where Asher learns that God protects him even when he can’t see it.

3 Ways to Start Praying With Your Child

  1. Say a short bedtime prayer using your child’s name.
  2. Ask your child what they would like you to pray about.
  3. Thank God together for one good thing from the day.

You don’t need perfect words, because a short, honest prayer is enough. Try one idea this week, and then send Asher a letter to share how it went.
